5 Tips for Writing Engaging & Succesfull Copy For Your Website
So you have a great product you are proud of and a web designer who understands the look and feel best suited to your business. All you need now is to write the content or copy for your website. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of it.
1. Keywords
Always include important keywords that are relevant to your business and website. You can even go a step further and make them bold or italicised for effect.
Keywords have a double purpose and that is in search engine optimization. So be sure to choose keywords that accurately reflect what your website is about.
2. Scannable Content
This may come as a surprise but most visitor's to your website will scan and not read your copy. You need to account for this by writing short and to the point.
Be concise in your sentences and write short paragraphs. The use of bullet lists is also an incredibly effective way to carry across information in a clear and concise manner.
Also make good use of headings and subheadings to arrange your content in a logical manner that is easy to understand.
3. Clear Titles
Be sure to give each page a clear and accurate title. This will help differentiate it from other pages but will also help with search engine optimization.
Be careful of using slang language or puns in titles as there will be many people who won't understand it. It may also make it difficult for search engines to accurately index your page.
4. Check & Check Again
Be sure to use a spell-checker to test for spelling and grammar mistakes. Silly punctuation or spelling errors can make you appear unprofessional and might cost you a potential client.
5. Be Objective
Past research has shown that visitors perform better with an objective writing style than one that sounds like a sales pitch. This type of promotional language is thought to result in visitors questioning the credibility of the source, which in turn can distract them from the meaning.
